Anabela Mesquita, SIIS researcher participated in the 2nd edition of the International Conference on Information Technology & Education (https://www.icited.org/) which took place, from July 14th to 16th, at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ICITED featured, as international keynotes, Alexandre Gracioso, Academic Vice President of ESPM, Ana Garcia-Valcarcel, Director of the Research Group on Innovation and Education, from the University of Salamanca and Patrick Yun, from the University of Hong Kong.
Of his contributions, the idea of the irreversibility of the use of technology stands out, which includes artificial intelligence, robotics and even holograms as teaching tools; the need to involve students in the teaching and learning process and to reflect on the content and process, as well as the use of new pedagogical approaches across the curriculum.

“Emprego em SI”, integrado no livro “Sistemas de Informação - Diagnósticos e Prospetivas”
Ana Paula Camarinha, researcher at SIIS, co-authored the chapter, “Employment in SI”, included in the book “Information Systems – Diagnostics and Prospectives”, promoted by Portuguese Association of Information Systems (APSI), published in February 2022 by the Syllable Editions. The publication of this comprehensive book brings together a set of contributions on research and subject education in Portugal. With the participation of companies and organizations that shared their experience of adopting and using IT applications and systems, in a unprecedented collaborative activity, fifty APSI members produced the sixteen chapters of this book, which summarize thirty years of experience in teaching and Information Systems research.
Nuno Coelho, PhD from ISEP wins award for Innovative Research on Cybersecurity
Nuno Mateus Coelho, who recently completed his PhD in Informatics at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), won the Inncyber Innovation Award, in the Researchers/Doctorate category.
This award is awarded annually by the Inncyber Innovation Hub to PhD theses completed in the strategic areas of digital transformation, cybersecurity and cyberdefence, with partners like Altice, EDP, Premivalor and PWC. The award was announced during the international conference «Cybersecurity & Cyberdefense as Critical Areas for promoting stability and economic growth», held in Sintra at the Air Force Academy.

First SIS meeting
On the past 28th of July, the first general meeting of the SIIS research group (Systems of Interaction and Social Innovation) took place at 5 pm via the zoom platform.
This meeting was attended by 32 researchers from the group and its main objective was to present the team, the objectives, the strategy, the facilities, and the future plan. The team was informed that the SIIS Porto Research Group was approved by the Technical Scientific Council of ISEP, thus becoming duly officialized and formalized. First PhD at SIIS
On March 4, José Marílio Oliveira Cardoso defended his Doctoral thesis entitled “Integration of Virtual Programming Lab in a process of teaching programming EduScrum based”, at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, having obtained the classification of “Sobrasaliente”.
The doctor is now a member of SIIS and professor and deputy director of the Department of Computer Engineering of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, where he teaches curricular units associated with programming initiation.
His Doctoral thesis focused on teaching programming and, more specifically, on the use of automatic code validation tools as a means of aiding the teaching-learning activity of programming, with a view to improving the process and enabling immediate feedback by students.
The work was carried out in the real context of the classes taught within the curricular unit of Algoritmia and Programming of the Degree in Computer Engineering and had the collaboration of several colleagues and the participation of a few hundred students.

SIIS was approved as a Research group by the Technical and Scientific Council of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto .
